Sculptor Guy Portelli has been asked by Peter Critchell, area organiser for Kent Ferrari, to show his work alongside Kent Ferrari at Car fest South this year.
Peter also asked Guy if he could come up with a project as a fund raiser to which Guy came up with the idea of mosaicking a Ferrari bonnet with hand prints of FI drivers and well-known people who own Ferrari's. The aim is to raise funds for BBC Children in Need.
It is an appropriate bonnet as Ferrari celebrate 70 years... this year and it is also 50 years of the Ferrari Owners Club, combined with the fact that Ferrari are top of their field in F1 now.
Guy will be working on the mosaicking at Car fest South and North.
David marsh will get a photograph of each "person" placing their hand on the bonnet and we plan to create a small album with the story.
The book along with supporting material will be added to a folder to go with the artwork when it goes for auction later in the year - nearer the time of Children in Need. We would approach an art auctioneer such as Bonham’s, Phillips or Christies....
The ideal is Ferrari drivers one side of the wreath and Ferrari Owners the other side with other hands woven in to the red background.
Guy's website is www.portelli-sculptor.co.uk
He recently did a Corvette bonnet highlighting the singer Prince's life and songs please see below image or visit David marsh’s page to see the images he took at the Bentley showroom….http://www.wallgo.co.uk/…/portelli-meets-lamborghini-bentl…/
We want to auction it when finished as a piece of artwork with all profits going to Children in Need. Costs are minimal - but the potential to raise funds is high!
Between 1962 and 1970, David Piper raced in many locations worldwide using his personally owned Ferraris. More recently Dave has offered his support to Kent Ferrari on numerous occasions including the latest project between both Peter Critchell and Guy Portelli.
The project was covered in my last post and today we gained the second famous hand print, that of David Piper. David kindly invited us all to his home where he entertained us with some of his amazing stories from his racing past.
David then showed us around some of his wonderful Ferrari racers.
